If your earlobes happen to be your kryptonite, we’ve got good news! In todays world we can use dermal fillers to plump up a limp lobe or prop up an earring hole stretched out with time or tearing.
Aging Ear The ears are not the typical area like the face that we slather on sunscreen, serums, lotions and preventative treatments. They’ve endured years of weighty earrings and being stretched, losing their strength and giving support over time. Your ears are showing age, but luckily we have treatments available for youthful lobes! Ear Care Your earlobes are covered in the same skin as the rest of your body and are subject to the same signs of aging—sun damage, wrinkles and volume loss. An easy way to begin caring for the delicate dermis of your ears is to simply extend your product usage out to them. Your ears are tough and additional treatments such as chemical peels, laser treatments and retinol creams can be used here. Of course sunscreen is always your best line of defense against aging. Skin cancer on the outer ear is quite common since the ear is regularly exposed to the sun without any SPF. Earring Usage Responsible earring usage is a must. It’s best to not choose the heaviest, most ornamental chandelier earrings. For special occasions this can be appropriate, but not for daily wear. Excessively wearing heavy earrings will inevitably lead too long, stretched out holes and can risk tearing the ear hole. Don’t sleep in your earrings because there is too much pulling and possible tearing if your earring gets caught on a bed sheet or pillow. Use support discs and/or adhesives if you simply must sport heavy jewelry or multiple earrings in a single ear. Dermal Filler in the Earlobes If the damage has been done and led to a loss of collagen and elastin, changing your ear from the plump lobe to a shriveled one then dermal fillers can be used to re-establish volume loss. A few simple injections of hyaluronic acid filler, like Restylane or Juvederm, around the lobe or earring hole can quickly revive a slack earlobe. The ability to add cushioning volume back to the earlobes can tighten up the hole and provide support for earrings once again. Very few side effects (mainly light bruising or swelling) with immediate results, make it a quick lunchtime procedure. Of course, dermal filler injections aren’t the only answer. Those with extensive damage and/or ripped earlobes may require a surgical procedure to address the damage.
