New Year, New Options to Glow Up Your Look

As health and wellness came into focus in 2021, we saw a rise in patients seeking cosmetic treatments to achieve their glow up for a less is more “I woke up like this” look. The beautification of the skin inside and out. The surge of interest in non invasive injectable treatments for the face and body, following the ‘zoom boom’ shows no signs of slowing.

“I continue to see a rise in patients of all ages interested in cosmetic injectables, skincare, esthetician services and lasers for full face rejuvenation and prevention. Age prevention is key and we have millennials to thank for normalizing this trend.

Not only are patients seeking natural results they are very savvy when it comes to maintenance and prevention. Understanding that if you treat early, create and commit to a consistent care plan, that less aggressive treatments will be necessary as you age. The “I woke up like this” look is achievable with consistency.

Regardless of age, patients are willing, excited and motivated to commit to a regimen year after year to combat the aging process. It’s a very exciting time to be alive with all the advancements in technology aligning with patients enthusiasm in the aesthetic industry.”

Corina Corbeille, RN, CANS, Board Certified Aesthetic Nurse, shares top aesthetic trends for 2022

Top Trends Include:

  • Liquid Facelifts: A liquid facelift achieved by injecting dermal fillers into the skin to plump up the skin and add volume. It differs from a surgical facelift in that there’s no cutting involved
  • Skin Boosters & Conditioning: Using different types of fillers which specifically target the skin which strive to improve the quality, hydration, and elasticity for fewer lines and better light reflection
  • Qwo: Qwo is a new injectable treatment that takes 15 minutes or less, when injected directly into cellulite dimples it immediately goes to work dissolving collagen bands, reducing the look and feel of cellulite
  • Aesthetic Injectables: Botox for wrinkles and dermal fillers for lips, cheeks, and jawline, etc, and other collagen stimulating injectable products like Sculptra Aesthetic, Hyper-diluted Radiesse and PRF are continuing to boom, allowing patients to have long-lasting results without permanent effects.
  • Body Contouring: the popularity of non invasive body contouring using devices and injectables is going to continue accelerating
  • Rhinoplasty: In 2021, rhinoplasties surpassed breast augmentations for the top performed surgery, and we don’t see this stopping in 2022
  • Skin Focused: Medical grade skincare brands which are results driven will continue to be the standard, resulting in wearing less makeup. Sunscreen will remain in demand as the most important skincare requirement

How to treat cellulite with injectables

Got Cellulite?

Cellulite refers to the “orange-peel” texture of the skin that is caused by collagen bands pulling downward on the skin’s surface resulting in depressions or dimpling in the skin. Staistics show cellulite effects approximately 90% of women.

Another related, important point is that cellulite isn’t the same as excess fat, so weight loss alone likely won’t get rid of the cellulite. Areas of the body that are cellulite-prone like the abdomen, buttocks and thighs seem to be much more resistant to fat loss. So with a healthy diet, exercise or weight loss cellulite may still be visible.

Cellulite won’t hurt you. So ultimately you don’t have to remove or treat it, unless you want to. A few injectable treatment options available to help improve the look of cellulite are QWO and Sculptra Aesthetic. These are great treatments when used in combination, with the QWO series being completed first, followed up by 3 session of Sculptra. The goal is to improve the dimpling in the skin related to cellulite, followed up with stimulating collagen production in the same area with Sculptra.

What is QWO and how does it work?

QWO is the first FDA approved injectable treatment for moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks. It's not fully understood how QWO works in moderate to severe cellulite thus far. The enzymes in QWO are believed to target a structural cause under the skin after injected, so the skin can rise and smooth back out. It's thought that QWO works in 3 ways: releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the growth of new collagen for a smoother booty.

What is Sculptra Aesthetic and how does it work?

Sculptra is a collagen-stimulating injectable that is aiming for a cellulite indication in the summer of 2022. Sculptra Aesthetic has been used off-label for many years for augmentation of the buttocks and textural improvements of cellulite. Sculptra shines at firming up the lax, wavy skin that often accompanies dimples. It’s great for skin conditioning of the buttocks and thighs but also for the crepey skin texture of the arms, elbows, knees, and more.
